06/28/2010 - Braided Ham and Cheese Bread

Preparation

Roll out a loaf of yeast bread (Rhodes works great) and place ham and cheese slices on top of bread. Brush on oil or spray butter. Make cuts along both edges of the bread dough about 1-inch apart and 3-inches deep. Braid bread as shown below and brush outside with more oil or spray butter.

Braided

Place braided bread in shallow dutch oven (may need to shape into a circle to make it fit). Allow bread to raise for approximately 25 minutes before cooking. Use 8 or less coals on bottom and 15 to 16 coals on the top. Wait for the wonderful smell -- it should take between 25 to 35 minutes.
